Making Pasture Work for Farmers with E. Ann Clark
Webinar series, online discussion forum & summer pasture walks

Are you ready to take your pasture game up to the next level? Or just getting started? Join pasture specialist E. Ann Clark for a two-part webinar series and online discussion forum to discover the benefits of pasture and to learn how others are converting grass into money. Plus, join in on pasture walks this June and July to see how it’s done.

Webinars: March 13 and 20 | 7:00-8:30 PM
Over two online sessions, Ann will share findings drawn from almost half a century of pasture work, including 14 years as a custom grazier in Warkworth, Ontario. She will mix hard evidence as well as practical experience – her own and that of commercial graziers – to make a compelling case for grass in our area.  Ever wonder how a 70+ year old woman can move 60-80 head of cattle 150X a year - alone in just minutes? Have you ever wanted to calculate the N, P, and K that leaves your farm in a hay crop? Can you really manage a 100 acre farm without owning a tractor? Come and find out! Participants will receive presentation materials in advance to review and give time to raise questions/comments relating to their own farm.

Online Discussion Forum: March 13-27 | 7:00-9:00 PM
Just in time for the 2025 grazing season, join an interactive online forum to connect with fellow novice graziers and landowners. Share your questions, experiences, and insights, and get personalized advice from pasture expert E. Ann Clark. This is your chance to learn from others,
exchange ideas, and find solutions tailored to your specific farming needs.

Pasture Walks: June and July (dates TBD)
See how others manage grass and stock this summer on two pasture walks. Consider hosting a pasture walk at your farm to showcase your successes, discuss challenges, and get advice from Ann and other graziers. All webinar participants will receive pasture walk invitations once dates and locations are finalized.

What to Expect

Session One: Making Roughland Pasture Work for Farmers
March 13 | 7:00-8:30pm | Online
Pasture is the best, if not the only economic use of non-arable land, of which we have an abundance in Central Ontario. Yet pasture suffers from a PR problem. For those interested in net rather than in gross income – in making money by not spending money – managed grass is the ticket. During this webinar, learn how two area graziers have displaced infrastructure and inputs with creative and profitable approaches to roughland grazing. Participants will receive presentation materials in advance to review and give time to raise questions/comments relating to their own farm.

Session 2: Making Arable Pasture Work for Farmers
March 20 | 7:00-8:30pm | Online
Agriculture that degrades its own soil cannot claim to be sustainable. If you were tasked with designing a cropping system that not only increased net returns but also reversed soil quality decline, what would it look like? Would perennial swards or grazing livestock play a central role? What is a grassland ley, and which mixture might you want to plant? What services do pasture and livestock offer to whole farm management? This session will focus on answering these questions, as illustrated with practical examples drawn from the farming community. Participants will receive presentation materials in advance to review and give time to raise questions/comments relating to their own farm.

Online Question Forum: Connect, Share, and Learn
March 13-27 | 7:00pm- 9:00pm | Online
Over two weeks in the latter half of March, join E. Ann Clark and fellow participants for an interactive online forum. Participate in real time, or submit your comments and queries at your convenience. This is your chance to:
  • Get personalized advice for your specific pasture-based enterprise
  • Share your experiences, challenges, and solutions with other farmers
  • Connect with a community of like-minded graziers to build knowledge and networks
